Yogurt covered blueberries

I took two cups Dannon Oikos greek yogurt (blue cup) honey flavor and one carton fresh blueberries. Stick a berry with a toothpick and dip/swirl in the yogurt cup and use a second tooth pick to push it off onto a cookie sheet. Do all of them and place in the freezer. After an hour you can pop them off the cookie sheet and into a plastic baggie. I got 3 sandwich bags full :)

  1. Those look good! Do they melt really quickly though? Or would they make a good toddler snack?

  2. Yes they melt fairly quickly. 5 minutes in a bowl left out will melt the yogurt back to it's original state. These are meant to be eaten frozen and quickly. My 5 year old can manage it, but not my 2 year old :)

  3. We had fun this weekend picking blueberries with our families and were looking for recipes. Thanks for sharing, I can't wait to try this with my daughter, she will love helping me. I've shared your link on our site with Little Hands that Cook with Books and Blueberries. http://theeducatorsspinonit.blogspot.com/2012/05/30-ways-to-eat-blueberries.html

  4. Does it have to be greek yogurt, or can you use any yogurt?

    1. I imagine that regular yogurt would be quite watery. Greek yogurt is nice and thick, plus it's much higher in protein!

  5. I wonder if strawberrys would work good too??? Have you tried them?

    1. I've done strawberries and it works just wonderful! I cut them in half but I've heard of using them whole. I use vanilla with the strawberries :)

    1. just fyi re blueberries- they are the most freezable food... dont wash, just pop the whole container into the freezer. i buy them up when on sale and freeze immediately so i have berries all year long. (if youre going to keep them longer than a couple weeks, transfer to a zip lock after theyre frozen)they will be soggy if defrosted so use them frozen and rinse as you toss them onto cereal or ice cream, into pancakes or muffins.

    2. How long will the blueberries last when you freeze them in the ziplock bags??

    3. A good way to freeze blueberries is to wash them and lay them flat to dry completely. Place them in a single layer on a cookie sheet and freeze, doesn't take long. Then put them in a freezer bag and back in the freezer. They are washed and ready to go when you need them and they will not stick together so you can grab a handful at a time.

    4. You should always wash your fruit before eating. Blueberries last for at least 3-4 months.

  15. Just made a batch of these! Can't wait to taste how they turn out. I'm assuming they must remain in the freezer and not the refrigerator or they would melt back to yogurt. I doubt they'll last long in our house though!

  16. When I tried this, they had developed a strange coating after being frozen. Any ideas? I was going to try covering the baking sheet, so they're not exposed to the air?

  21. What a great idea! In a moment of weakness, I committed to buying a quart of blueberries a week until they were gone, and I need some easy ideas of how to use them. As much as I love them, I get tired of just eating plain after awhile.

  22. My daughter loved this - My publix was out of blueberries so I got raspberries instead, and dipped them in regular blueberry yogurt. Had no issues with the consitiensy compared to greek yogurt.

  24. Does anyone have any idea how many servings this recipe yields? I am trying to log this into my nutritional log, but I needed a "serving size."
    Thank you so much :)

  25. Do you mean serving of fruit? If so, she said she used one carton. Most cartons are a pint which is two cups. A serving of fruit is usually half a cup, so this makes four servings.

  30. These were very, very sour when I made them. I used super sweet blueberries and sweet honey yogurt, and any trace of sweetness disappeared. Not what I was expecting.
